Oncor Fights Back Against Copper Wire Theft

DALLAS – (Business Wire) Copper theft is a community problem that is continuing to grow. Thieves have stolen air conditioners out of churches, equipment of out schools and wiring out of streetlights. Oncor, with its miles of distribution and transmission lines, is also a target for these thieves.

In the middle of the night on Feb. 7, two thieves stole more than 240 feet of copper wire worth more than $35,000 from a local Dallas business. These thieves risked their lives, inconvenienced the business owner and created additional costs for every ratepayer.
