Rising metal costs driving catalytic converter thefts

A recent spike in catalytic converter thefts around Davidson County is linked to the high value of certain metals that are found in the devices, particularly platinum, law enforcement authorities said.

Once removed, a whole catalytic converter can be sold to a scrap yard for as a little as $25 or as much as $150.
